Hello,

I am having almost the exact same issue (although I also have it with the kinetic scrolling bug in python), except that I am using the Nokia 5800.

After I select any access point the application exits with no error. It just returns to the Applications directory. Choosing SMS or Call does the same thing.

I am wondering if there is any special formatting for the Google Voice account settings, but I've tried everything and it keeps terminating. Is it worth it to downgrade to attempt to see any results?

Thanks,
Oliver

> Have you tried specifying the access point name in the options dialog?

Yes, when I do, it crashes at that point too.

It also crashes when I choose "back" from the options screen.

When I say "crashes" I mean the same thing as in the original post - where the app just seems to close without any error message.

And, yes, "<cut>" just indicates the beginning and end of content in the debug file.

HTH - and hope you can help too - the browser just isn't a great way to use GV.

I just installed the GoogleVoiceForS60 app, and its crashing when I select an access point.

I'm using an E72 with sw version 031.023 (31-mar-2010), custom version 031.023.244.02 (22-apr-2010).

I first installed the list of packages. I noticed that the phone already had newer versions of ssl.sis and pips.sis

PIPS Installer -> website 1.06(0), phone 1.07(4)
Open C LIBSSL -> website 1.06(0) phone 1.07(0)

.. so I didn't install those. Stdioserver.sis went on without problems, and I installed GoogleVoiceForS60.sis. I rebooted the phone.

If I attempt to send an SMS or make a call, the app just exits, without any error message. I saw the instructions about enabling debugging in another post, so I did that and here is the output from it.

06/28/10 12:14:46	Forcing AP change

06/28/10 12:14:46	Starting get_ap_from_settings

06/28/10 12:14:46	Done with socket.access_points

06/28/10 12:14:47	Reading AP from database

06/28/10 12:14:47	Returning access point name

---<cut>---

So, it looks like the app crashes when it attempts to use or select the access point. One thing I noticed different about the recent SW update to the E72 was the inclusion of SmartConnect since the email application doesn't use the new "Internet" automatic connection destination. So, I guess they contracted with BirdStep to give us E72 users the SmartConnect app as a workaround for automatically switching between wifi and carrier internet. I don't know if this has anything to do with the crashing...

Hello,

I tried to follow the instructions below without success so I tried installing ssl.sis, stdioserver.sis and pips.sis. I am still recieving a Certification error and it won't install .7.27 on the phone.

1. Download and install the PyS60 2.0.0 runtime
2. Download and install GoogleVoiceForS60_0.7.27_merged.sis

I may be sending this prematurely since I received the phone today and am not completely familar with it yet. To me it sounds like the SSL isn't installing properly. I tried re-installing but can't get Google Voice to install. Do you have any sugestions on what I should try next?

SIP is an ASCII-based, application-layer control protocol that can be used to establish, maintain, and
terminate calls between two or more endpoints. Like other VoIP protocols, SIP is designed to address
the functions of signaling and session management within a packet telephony network. Signaling allows
call information to be carried across network boundaries. Session management provides the ability to
control the attributes of an end-to-end call.

So I read in a post from a while back that though you don't plan on adding SIP integration you have considered adding Gizmo5 support. That would really improve the software for people who only have data plans on their mobile devices but who use a google voice account linked to their hard phone lines at home. How's the progress coming on that? Also, why not simply tap into the symbian system that uses the internet calling feature and let that native part of the operating system handle all the SIP and Gizmo integration/registration? In other words, couldn't you just program your software to simply use the system default dialing setup rather than forcing it through the cellular network?

Any firmware with kinetic scrolling support (including V50 for 5800) will break the listbox scrolling in python. This issue has to be fixed in the python runtime and unfortunately Nokia devs are dragging their feet on this one.

Sometimes I wonder if they even use Nokia phones themselves as this has been broken since version 1.9.7 (released in August 2009) and any python app that uses listboxes is essentially broken and unusable. Maybe they all use the latest Nokia 2100 phones...

At this point all I can do is swear at them and hope that someday it might be fixed ;-)

This is a known issue with the Python runtime. I have made Nokia aware of the issue over 6 months ago and am still waiting on a fix from them. Unfortunately until Nokia fixes this issue there is nothing I can do.

This is the official nokia bug:
https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=4742&group_id=854&atid=3201

Running GoogleVoiceforS60 version 0.7.25 and S60 V40.2.005.465.03 on a Nokia 5800 Navi Edition.

The contacts list doesn't work, in the sense that the image doesn't update when I scroll down. If I highlight a section, then that particular line will be updated to the new contact. That is to say, it acts like a still image if I scroll in either direction, and updates whenever I touch an area, and then once again becomes a still image. Sorry if that sounds confusing, I can elucidate further if needed.

To note, this happened after I updated S60 from whatever version it was that came installed on the phone. Before, it was working fine. It has only started this issue after the update.

I tried it on Nokia 5800. It works well. I registered this account to say thank you, and want to request more features :)
(1) gizmo5 number support. If I set my number to gizmo5 number, it won't dial it. It does work if I set it to a physical phone number.
(2) When manually entering a phone number to call, no more than 10 digit can be accepted. One importance feature of Google voice is its cheap international call. I need enter more than 10 digit to do that. I haven't tried whether it works if the number in the contact exceeds 10 digit.

For now, I still have to log into my Google voice account through web, to ring my gizmo5 number, or/and to make an international call. Could you please add those features in your next release?

A good software, Thank you!

installed the prog yesterday on my e75, and it's working fine. but I can't seem to load the s/w update to python from the ovi suite software updater. does that matter? looking forward to further developments, such as starting from the phone's native contact list; having a choice of numbers to use, but you're sure on the right track. I wish you great success.

Raf,
Just upgraded to n86 as the e61 was a little long in the tooth downloaded but did not install, both the python and security (they were both older than what was already on the handset) then installed gv4s60 - this time it worked (installed, and launched) - now having problems "placing"calls as the program just seemed to hang - so I exited it about 5 minutes later I got a call from my gvoice number (ie I think it was trying to place it for me) Don't know if its related but I have an address book with 2k+ contacts so I can only search and not view (what's the limit on the contacts BTW) I'll send more info if it'll help just let me know what you want.

Make sure you have the handset number specified in the options and that it is also configured with Google Voice. Most of the time Google refuses to place the call if you try to place a call from a number that has not been registered/verified with google.

Version 0.7.25 is installed on my 5800 and working well.

One gripe - when I first installed it, it pulled my contact list. I since trimmed down the contact list to make it easier to dial (there were too many, and the list was populated with blank identifiers). However, even after removing the app, and reinstalling - it holds onto the original contact list (and sign in info....). Any hints to fix this?

update - oops - Now I realize the GV app uses the phone contact list not the google voice contact list. So I'm a happier guy - but I'll leave the gripe here in case anyone makes the same mistake I did!

While your device shows the company name (without first or last), the software will not (yet).

This is not necessarily a bug as opposed to user error and the lack of data read in the application, I've recently noticed the GV software does not read the "Company Name" field on my Nokia N97.

Problem: without a "First" or "Last" name in your contact(s) the field in the software appears blank. This might not be noticeable until you hit "options" and "view numbers" (otherwise it just appears as a blank area)... and with enough (until you scroll down) fools you into thinking no contacts are displaying at all.

Solution: hit "options" and "view numbers" while in the software, search for the number in your contacts (using OVI or Google sync or whatever program you want.) Update the contact with a first and or last name and re-sync your device. Once you've updated that contact with the first and or last name information it will show up properly in the software.

However, I still have one contact in my list that indicates "Contact Doesn't Have Any Defined Numbers" when attempting to "view numbers". While this is only one contact (and may just be an email address in my device)... with hundreds of contacts it may take a while for me to find. (so I have one blank field on top which I cannot decipher at this time)

Update Request: Perhaps add (view all contact information) as opposed to just numbers (like you would in your normal contact list). This might aid us in locating problem contacts to update our devices information. :)
