Creating successful application for mobile devices requires extensive experience and presents unique challenges when compared to Windows or Web development. The vast amount of platform and device versions, compounded by the short life cycle of the target devices, requires a very agile development approach.

We have been producing application for mobile devices ever since Palm III was launched in 1998. Currently majority of our development concentrates on Android and Windows Phone 7 platforms. In today’s market, the PDA has been largely replaced by the smart-phone and majority of the applications we have developed are network aware and are either part of an enterprise system or utilize connectivity to improve productivity.

Recent Work

Barcode Decoder

Recently we have completed a project that utilizes the cell-phone camera to decode 1D barcodes. The barcode library is decoding Code 39, one of the most dense and difficult barcode symbologies. Our solution has achieved a very high accuracy rate and is well beyond anything that is available on the target platform.

Vehicle Manager

We have ported a fairly large desktop database to a Nokia phone. The database itself consists of about 5 million records scattered through dozens of tables. Main use of the application is for lookup and analysis of data and so read speeds are essentially. After heavy optimizations we were able to achieve faster application operation on the phone than on the desktop computer.

Our philosophy is very simple when it comes to consulting: Provide excellent return on investment and develop long lasting customer relationship. In fact, majority of our customer engagements last longer than 5 years. By developing a relationship we build trust and knowledge which in turn optimizes our work and increases our effectiveness.

With 20 years of experience in software development we will bring maturity, business know-how and technical depth from many industries to your company. Our engagements often include:

Vetting of project or application ideas

Research and Development

Feasibility studies

Troubleshooting

Rescuing troubled projects

Business requirements validation

Long term support and maintenance

Migrations

Our recent projects included:

Developing high definition CMOS camera with flash for use with Windows tablet PCs

Development and retrofitting new UI design on top of existing business applications

Design and implementation of 4-way Microsoft SQL Server Replication between satellite offices

Migration of distributed MSDE 2000 database application to SQLite

Barcode scanner integration with internal web application

Image barcode decoder algorithm

The web as an application platform is in a constant flux. Applications that are not feasible to develop today become practical tomorrow. We always strive to investigate new technological opportunities and implement the ones that fit our development paradigm. For instance: we’ve been using Ruby on Rails ever since version 0.7.6.

Over the years we have built up a sizable library of our own code but we do prefer to use existing frameworks whenever possible. Here is an excerpt from our “current tools list”:

Asp.Net

Ruby on Rails

Django

TurboGears

jQuery

Prototype & Scriptaculous

Python

PHP

Classic ASP

We also try use many prepackaged content delivery frameworks like Drupal, Joomla, WordPress and DotNetNuke when the circumstances allow for such usage.

When developing web application we usually opt in for the agile development methodology. In the early phase of development we utilize professional user interface designers to come-up with appealing prototype designs as soon as possible and follow through with incremental application releases.

It is our experience that during the development cycle many requirements and assumptions change and our agile methodology affords us to adapt to the changes with minimal impact on budgets and timelines.

We have an unusual approach to developing software applications. The first questions that we ask after coming up with an idea for a project is: How will we distribute, support and maintain the system?

In our experience, asking this question first leads to systems with easy maintenance and longevity. After all, support costs usually exceed the initial cost of developing a software application and play a major role in the profit and loss calculations down the road. This also fits very well with one of core principles in agile software development: “Ship as soon as possible”

We have published our own software and also developed many applications for 3rd party publishers and independent software vendors. Our estimates indicate that more than a million applications built by us were sold and installed in the last 10 years. The cumulative effect is that we are no strangers to longtime support, migrations and of course issues related to full-cycle software development.

Our core competency lies in developing business applications and systems. We are experts in C# and other .NET languages, C++, Delphi, Python and Visual Basic. In fact, we still support a many legacy systems written in VB6.

Don’t hesitate to call us if you have an idea for a project or would like to license one of our products.

We have extensive experience in developing database applications. Over 90% of software that we developed had some sort of underlying database system. We specialize in Microsoft SQL Server, MySql, Firebird / Interbase, PostgreSQL, SQLite and many more.

We know all the ins and outs of each of these database systems; their strengths and weaknesses. More often than not it’s the database weaknesses that bring down an application or solution to its knees. Over the years we have rescued many projects that have painted themselves into a corner because of bad design decisions and or inexperienced developers not planning for the future.

We specialize in:

Database design and development

Replication

Migrations

Distribution and Installations

Disaster recovery

Long-term support

Give us a call if you need help with your database needs.
